Instrument Check
Before using the receiver and transmitter, perform routine checks to ensure sufficient battery power and proper instrument function. If any of the following conditions exist, resolve the issue before using the instrument.
1. Receiver Check:
a. Battery check: press power key to check battery level. If fully charged, all five solid bars of the battery icon are displayed. When only one bar is lit and flashing, the battery is low and requires recharging before use.
b. Passive mode check: press frequency key to select 50Hz, adjust sensitivity, point the receiver at a fluorescent lamp from 1m away. When the lamp is turned on, a strong audible signal and display indication should appear.
c. Active mode check: select an interference-free area, place the transmitter on the ground in normal orientation, power on and set the transmit frequency. Point the receiver wide face toward the transmitter at ~5m, set same frequency, increase sensitivity until signal response is detected.
2. Transmitter Check:
a. Battery check: turn on the transmitter, observe battery indicator. If voltage is below 11V, recharge before use.
b. Depth measurement function check: Select an area free of metal structures and other detected pipelines. Place an insulated cable or wire longer than 20 meters on the ground, with the far end connected to a ground rod or directly grounded, and the near end connected to the red output wire (black wire grounded). Insert the output wire into the transmitter output jack. Turn on the transmitter, adjust the output signal, and use the SL-480 receiver to measure depth above the long wire at a known height. 3. Reference volume setting: Press and hold the volume key and power key on the receiver keyboard simultaneously to turn on the receiver. The three arcs outside the volume symbol on the display will flash. Press the volume key again — the first arc (high volume) and second arc (medium volume) stop flashing, and only the third arc (low volume) flashes. Use the up and down keys to set the new reference sound for low volume. Press the volume key again, and the third arc (low volume) stops
The receiver reference volume is factory preset. Re-adjustment is generally not needed unless specifically required.
